Sauna Session Calculator
Set your sauna type and experience level to get minutes per round, how many rounds to do, total time, and how much water to drink.

| Experience | Minutes per round | Rounds |
|---|---|---|
| New | 10 to 15 min | 1 to 2 |
| Regular | 10 to 15 min | 2 to 3 |
| Experienced | 10 to 15 min | 3 to 4 |
How the rounds work
A sauna session is not one long sit. You go in for a round, come out to cool down and drink water, then go back in. Each round adds up, so three infrared rounds of 25 minutes is a longer session than it sounds. Start with fewer rounds and build up as your body adjusts to the heat.
Traditional versus infrared
Traditional saunas heat the air and often run from 160 to 200 °F, so rounds stay short at 10 to 15 minutes. Infrared cabins warm your body and the surfaces around you at lower air temperatures, so a round can run 20 to 30 minutes. Pick the type that matches the sauna you own, then set the timer to the round length.
Hydration and cooling down
You lose water through sweat, so drink 16 to 24 oz across the session and a little more if it runs long. Between rounds, step out, sit down, and let your heart rate settle before you go back in. Skip alcohol before or after, and stop if you feel dizzy, sick, or overheated.

Questions about this calculator
How long should a sauna session last?
Count it in rounds, not one block of time. Traditional rounds run 10 to 15 minutes and infrared rounds run 20 to 30 minutes. A full session is usually two to four rounds with cool-down breaks between them.
How many rounds should I do?
New users do well with 1 to 2 rounds, regular users with 2 to 3, and experienced users with 3 to 4. Add a round only when the current number feels easy.
How long should I cool down between sauna rounds?
Give yourself at least 5 to 10 minutes out of the heat, or until your heart rate settles and you feel comfortable. Drink water during the break. Rushing back in does not make the session better.
Is infrared hotter than traditional?
No. Traditional saunas heat the air to around 160 to 200 °F, while infrared cabins often run at lower air temperatures and warm your body more directly. That is why infrared rounds can last longer.
How much water should I drink in a sauna?
Aim for about 16 to 24 oz across the session, sipping before, during, and after. If you sweat a lot or the session runs long, drink a little more and add a salty snack afterward.
Can I use a sauna every day?
Many people sauna several times a week. Daily sessions are fine for some, but watch for feeling drained, dizzy, or unusually tired. Rest days help if you are new to the heat.
When should I stop a sauna session?
Come out early if you feel dizzy, nauseated, lightheaded, or your heart is racing. Cool down, drink water, and do not push through it. Heat affects people differently, so treat these as clear stop signals.
